I want to tell you about a very special person in my life, my dad.

So what is special about my dad? He gave me something that has changed my life forever.

See my dad make sure we had everything we needed growing up, not everything we wanted, but needed. He worked a full time job and then he would work side jobs doing electrical work, he later had a wood working shop where he made just about any type of furniture you would want.

He worked everyday except Sunday. See, if it was Sunday we were in church and church started with Sunday school. We all went to church with or without a smile on our face. Later in life like most teenagers when they leave home they leave their church upbringing behind, but because my dad had us in church every Sunday, he had planted a seed. No matter how far I got away from God there was that little voice in the back of my mind I could never get rid of. The Holy Spirit was there asking what are you going to do about Jesus?

Well it took 13 years for me to finally answer that question. On Sept 5th 1991 I was ready to give it all up and throw in the towel and walk away from everything. Everything just seem to be another problem, the dope, the alcohol, smoking, my wife, my son, my career, everything. Nothing was good enough.

So I decided that I was going leave everything behind. I was just going to go to work one day and not come back.

The thing that stopped me was something from my past that I watched my dad do many times while growing up.

See one of the things that happened at home when we were growing up was that when Billy Graham was on TV we were watching it and it just so happen that the day I was going to leave everything behind, there was a Billy Graham crusade on TV. My wife and I had already had our daily argument, I was watching TV in our bedroom, she was watching TV in the living room, and I had my son in the bath tub because he was going to bed early because I had enough of him too.

So as I set there waiting for my son to finish his bath I was flipping throw the channels I came across the Billy Graham crusade, which I skipped right through because I didn’t want to here about god. I kept going through the channels but did not find anything of interest so guess what I came back to? Billy Graham. It wasn’t even 10 seconds after turning there he spoke these words. He said I am 73 year’s old and there are still hundred of things I do not understand about the bible, but I read it and study it everyday and learn something new every day.

When I heard Billy Graham say those words it was like a light bulb turned on in my head, the bells started ringing, the whistles started blowing, I said to myself I can do that, I don’t have to know everything about God to believe in him. If Billy Graham doesn’t know it all and he is still going to heaven, then so can I.

I did not hear the actual conversation God had with satan at that moment, but it went something like this. “We have seen what Sherman will do with the lies you have been telling him, now lets see what he will do with the truth”

At that point the devil’s lies had just been busted. He was telling me things like, you don’t understand all there is to know about god, how can you follow someone you don’t understand, how can you follow someone who lets bad things happen to good people. Needless to say, I told satan to leave me alone that I knew the truth now and that I was going to give my life over to God and I was going to trust him no matter what.

In those few seconds my whole thought process changed, I wanted to stay with my wife and family, keep my job, my car, and house. Everything that was a problem was no longer a problem, I immediately gave up dope, quit drinking and smoking cigarettes. I started attending church again.

All this took place because one man did the right thing, my dad believes in God and took his family to church. I own my life to my dad, so, thank you dad. I love you always.

Don’t think for a instant I have forgotten about my mom it goes with out saying, my dad could not have done everything he did without the help of my mom standing their beside him along every step of the way. Thank you mom. I love you always.

Now why am I writing this? For 2 reasons; the first one is to honor my father and mother.

The second reason is for my family and relatives and any one else who reads this.

My dad has cancer and soon will step over in to heaven. My mother will join him there when she passes on. When I die, I will also join them there.

I will be sad when he passes on, but just for a little while. Soon I will be spending millions of years with him and my mom, but the best part will be, God will be there.

So I ask you this questions; Will you spend eternity with your loved ones that are already in heaven?

God said there is only one-way to heaven and that is to have a relationship with his son Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:9

Nobody wants to image spending eternity with out their loves ones, but God said the path to heaven is narrow and a few will find it, the road to hell is wide and many will go there. Matthew 7:13

A lot of preacher will describe hell as a pit of fire filled with pain and suffering, but lets forget about that for a moment.

Just stop and think about it. What is the best way to describe hell?

It is a place where God isn’t.

Just image for a moment if in this world there was no God, no righteous, no morals or values, you were allow to do what you wanted, when you wanted, and how you wanted to do it.

Now image every rapist, pedophile, murderer, thief, terrorist, and every other evil person having that same privilege. You would have hell on earth.

Not a place I want to spend eternity.

Now image a place where God Is. God said there would be no more pain, suffering, tears or sorrow, there will be peace, love, and joy for all eternity. Revelation 21:3-5

It is a very simple thing to do, just follow the A, B, C,s

A = Admit you have sinned. Romans 3:23

B = Believe that Jesus died for your sins. John 3:16

C = Confess Jesus as Lord of your life. Romans 10:9

Then go tell others.
